The Snatchers
بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمٰنِ الرَّحيمِ
In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Mercifulوَالنّٰزِعٰتِ غَرقًا
The (angels who) snatch (the souls of the disbelievers) forcibly.وَالنّٰشِطٰتِ نَشطًا
And those who gently take (the souls of the believers) joyfully.7

وَالسّٰبِحٰتِ سَبحًا
And those floating everywhere.2

فَالسّٰبِقٰتِ سَبقًا
Eagerly racing with one another—2

فَالمُدَبِّرٰتِ أَمرًا
to carry out various commands.2

يَومَ تَرجُفُ الرّاجِفَةُ
The day the quake quakes.2

تَتبَعُهَا الرّادِفَةُ
Followed by the second blow.أَبصٰرُها خٰشِعَةٌ
Their eyes will be subdued.2

يَقولونَ أَءِنّا لَمَردودونَ فِى الحافِرَةِ
They will say, "We have been recreated from the grave!2
Subject indexGravesRe-creation
أَءِذا كُنّا عِظٰمًا نَخِرَةً
"How did this happen after we had turned into rotten bones?"1
Subject indexBones
قالوا تِلكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خاسِرَةٌ
They had said, "This is an impossible recurrence."فَإِنَّما هِىَ زَجرَةٌ وٰحِدَةٌ
All it takes is one nudge.فَإِذا هُم بِالسّاهِرَةِ
Whereupon they get up.هَل أَتىٰكَ حَديثُ موسىٰ
Have you known about the history of Moses?2
Subject indexHistoryPharaoh › Moses sent to
إِذ نادىٰهُ رَبُّهُ بِالوادِ المُقَدَّسِ طُوًى
His Lord called him at the holy valley of Tuwaa.4

اذهَب إِلىٰ فِرعَونَ إِنَّهُ طَغىٰ
"Go to Pharaoh; he has transgressed."1
Subject indexPharaoh › Moses sent to
فَقُل هَل لَكَ إِلىٰ أَن تَزَكّىٰ
Tell him, "Would you not reform?3
Subject indexPharaoh › Moses sent toPurifyingReforming
وَأَهدِيَكَ إِلىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخشىٰ
"Let me guide you to your Lord, that you may turn reverent."2
Subject indexHumblenessPharaoh › Moses sent to
فَأَرىٰهُ الءايَةَ الكُبرىٰ
He then showed him the great miracle.2
فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصىٰ
But he disbelieved and rebelled.2

ثُمَّ أَدبَرَ يَسعىٰ
Then he turned away in a hurry.2
Subject indexHurry, don’t be in aPharaoh › Moses sent to
فَحَشَرَ فَنادىٰ
He summoned and proclaimed.3
Subject indexMagicians and MosesPharaoh › Moses sent toProclaim
فَقالَ أَنا۠ رَبُّكُمُ الأَعلىٰ
He said, "I am your Lord; most high."2
Subject indexPharaoh › Moses sent toSupreme, God is
فَأَخَذَهُ اللَّهُ نَكالَ الءاخِرَةِ وَالأولىٰ
Consequently, GOD committed him to the retribution in the Hereafter, as well as in the first life.2

إِنَّ فى ذٰلِكَ لَعِبرَةً لِمَن يَخشىٰ
This is a lesson for the reverent.2

ءَأَنتُم أَشَدُّ خَلقًا أَمِ السَّماءُ ۚ بَنىٰها
Are you more difficult to create than the heaven? He constructed it.رَفَعَ سَمكَها فَسَوّىٰها
He raised its masses, and perfected it.2
Subject indexMasses › raisedSigns › of nature
وَأَغطَشَ لَيلَها وَأَخرَجَ ضُحىٰها
He made its night dark, and brightened its morn.3
Subject indexDarkness › physicalMorningSigns › of nature
وَالأَرضَ بَعدَ ذٰلِكَ دَحىٰها
He made the earth egg-shaped.*أَخرَجَ مِنها ماءَها وَمَرعىٰها
From it, He produced its own water and pasture.2
Subject indexPastureSigns › of nature
وَالجِبالَ أَرسىٰها
He established the mountains.2
Subject indexMountains › signsSigns › of nature
مَتٰعًا لَكُم وَلِأَنعٰمِكُم
All this to provide life support for you and your animals.فَإِذا جاءَتِ الطّامَّةُ الكُبرىٰ
Then, when the great blow comes.يَومَ يَتَذَكَّرُ الإِنسٰنُ ما سَعىٰ
That is the day when the human will remember everything he did.1
Subject indexRemembrance
وَبُرِّزَتِ الجَحيمُ لِمَن يَرىٰ
Hell will be brought into existence.1
Subject indexHell › creation of
فَأَمّا مَن طَغىٰ
As for the one who transgressed.1
Subject indexTransgressor (see also sinners)
وَءاثَرَ الحَيوٰةَ الدُّنيا
Who was preoccupied with this life.2
Subject indexLife › priority toPreference
فَإِنَّ الجَحيمَ هِىَ المَأوىٰ
Hell will be the abode.وَأَمّا مَن خافَ مَقامَ رَبِّهِ وَنَهَى النَّفسَ عَنِ الهَوىٰ
As for the one who reverenced the majesty of his Lord, and enjoined the self from sinful lusts.4
فَإِنَّ الجَنَّةَ هِىَ المَأوىٰ
Paradise will be the abode.1
Subject indexParadise (see also Gardens, Heaven) › attainment of
يَسـَٔلونَكَ عَنِ السّاعَةِ أَيّانَ مُرسىٰها
They ask you about the Hour, and when it will take place!2
Subject indexHour, theQuestions › asked
فيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكرىٰها
It is not you (Muhammad) who is destined to announce its time.1
Subject indexMuhammad › didn't know future
إِلىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهىٰها
Your Lord decides its fate.1
Subject indexFate
إِنَّما أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخشىٰها
Your mission is to warn those who expect it.كَأَنَّهُم يَومَ يَرَونَها لَم يَلبَثوا إِلّا عَشِيَّةً أَو ضُحىٰها
The day they see it, they will feel as if they lasted one evening or half a day.4
